San Lucano
The San Lucano Valley is a beautiful natural oasis located in the italian Dolomites near Belluno, just over an hour from Venice. The valley is scarcely inhabited and extends from the Municipality of Taibon Agordino, at the base of the Pale di San Martino plateau in the geographic heart of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Dolomites. The San Lucano Valley is a landscape pearl, an uncontaminated italian treasure. Unfortunately in 2018 this valley was hit in succession by a series of disasters. In October 2018, a huge fire broke out that devastated much of the forest heritage. A few days later the Vaia storm destroyed another part of the valley with the gusts of very strong wind. This series of infrared photographs shows the current state of the valley in spring 2019. The process of rebirth is underway both from a human infrastructure point of view and in terms of flora and fauna. The technique of photography on the infrared visual spectrum allows us to capture frequencies of light not perceived by the human eye. In particular we can see different shades of color on the vegetation. What is dead appears red and orange and everything that is reborn is golden yellow.
